PreS-Gr 3-The sweet friendship of Peach and Plum, a pair of fruits, is the focus of this peppy, rhyming graphic novel. Optimistic Peach and slightly more pragmatic Plum introduce themselves to readers as "always happy, never glum." With this positive energy infusing the book, they indulge in the joys of familiar summer settings. They savor activities such as bike rides, building sandcastles, and flying kites, in a series of short chapters paced like episodes of a cartoon. Bubble gum, backyard camping, and even tackling a list of chores fill the book to the brim with adventures. The simple, metered text keeps the chapters bouncing along, and McCanna's amiable, colorful illustrations, drawn with simple lines, allow the book to serve the primary purpose of reading practice while sparking moments of delight and recognition for young readers. VERDICT A welcoming invitation to read, rhyme, and savor life's sweet moments.-Emilia Packard
