The Mansion

ebook

The third and final volume in the Snopes trilogy, The Mansion begins and ends with death. Imprisoned for murder and abandoned by his cousin Flem, Mink Snopes quietly does his time while planning to murder Flem upon his release from prison. At the same time, others in Yoknapatawpha County, including Flem's daughter Linda, are also plotting Flem's downfall. The Mansion continues Faulkner's commentary on post-war economic troubles and racial and social tensions in the American South.

The Mansion was published two years after The Town, and 19 years after the Snopes family was first introduced in The Hamlet. It is the second-last book set in Faulkner's fictional Yoknapatawpha County.
